When you are trying to land a job in an HR department, you want to make sure that your application is as polished as possible. You may have a resume that you update and amend regularly, but you are certainly not alone if you find the idea of writing a cover letter for a specific post a little daunting.
For a start, the term ‘cover letter’ is misleading as it gives the impression that the letter is just there to address your resume to the recruiter. However, the cover letter plays a much more important role in the hiring process than that, not least because it is your chance to make a good first impression on an employer and show them that you are a viable candidate.
Fortunately, there are plenty of resources available to anyone who’s struggling to find the right words, and our HR assistant cover letter sample and accompanying advice pulls together a range of information and ideas to help you write a letter that will get your application noticed.
Dear Ms. Warner,
I was excited to see that you are recruiting an HR assistant. I completed a summer internship with Technogem in my final year of college, and I enjoyed it so much that I have been keen to land a permanent role ever since I graduated.
I was particularly interested to learn that your internship program has expanded recently and I would love the chance to use my experience to contribute to the plans for its implementation. I believe that I have some insights which could achieve your goal of training and mentoring interns to ensure that they all reach the personal targets set for them.
It was while I was studying for my degree in business management that I developed an interest in human resources, from which point I took as many relevant courses as possible. These included courses in employee relations and organizational behavior, so I have developed negotiation skills which I see you are looking for.
Based on the listing, you also need someone who can organize the HR department’s system for storing employee data. I received the top marks in my class for information management, and part of that was designing a database for customer information, so I have experience of completing a similar project successfully.
My internship at Technogem was a great opportunity to see how a large corporate office worked, and I learned so much about the company’s clients, culture and internal processes and procedures that I believe I would be a good fit for your HR team where this knowledge is so important.
I would love to talk to you more about the role and the opportunity it represents.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Kay Winder
